Happy #5 Isaiah!
Isaiah, you turned five today. Happy Birthday boy!
I really don’t know how it is possible that five years have passed since the day that you were born. I know that time goes quickly, especially as you watch your children grow, but this really doesn’t make sense. I don’t remember when you changed from a baby into a little boy. Yet I remember images from your baby and toddlerhood vividly. I remember the time you first laughed, that wonderful little belly laugh that babies do. You were three months old and I had been waiting to hear that sound. I believe I tickled your neck and you let out a laugh. I remember kissing you and holding you way up high in the air, so excited to have heard you laugh for the first time. I remember while we were still in the hospital with you after you were born. I awoke in the morning and looked over at your little bassinet. You were laying there perfectly quiet, wide awake, with the blanket over your head. It didn’t seem to bother you at all. I shouldn’t be able to remember these images with such clarity if they were five years ago.
The dates do not lie as my mind does though – and it is true – you are a big five year old. Your world is beginning to change and broaden. Soon your days will be filled with more than just being at home with mom. You are learning and expanding and growing. You are tugging at the apron strings ever so slightly, and I will have to adjust them just a little.
—————————————————-
I was on a field trip (moms get those every so often) today, so Isaiah got to spend his birthday with his cousin Cambel. Cambel was generous enough to dig through all the toys that his mom wants to get rid of, i.e. the ones that drive her completely up the wall, and give them to Isaiah. He is now the owner of a totally annoying Nascar pin ball game complete with loud sounds.
When I picked him up in the afternoon Maria said he was downstairs taking a nap with Cambel. I went down to get him and as soon as the boys saw me they layed down as fast as they could. I guess birthday boys are exempt from naps.
For his birthday supper Nate cooked up some bluegill a friend of ours had caught this weekend. It was a special request of Isaiah’s to have this for his dinner. After dinner came our big surprise for Isaiah. First, we gave him a gift of totally boring clothes that he needs for summer. Not that the clothes were bad, just not exactly what he had in mind for a birthday gift.

Then we sent him on a hunt for his real present. We did a sort of “I Spy” game. I took pictures of objects and places around our house from an angle that made identification of them a little more challenging. When Isaiah identified the place he would find another picture clue.

These series of clues led Isaiah to his real gift:

A new bike!
Isaiah’s growing legs were too big for his old one. Here are a couple videos of Isaiah finding his new bike after his last clue. I should have recorded this in one fluid video, but my videographer skills are a little lacking:
Of course, a birthday would not be complete without cake. And quite honestly, my day is not complete without cake, so we had some.

Micah knows there is something good up on that table

I totally did not make Isaiah reenact this picture because I missed him blowing out the candles.
Happy Birthday, Isaiah!! I hope for many more years of happy birthdays and that as you grow into your own person you will grow more and more into the image of Christ.
